February 3, 1863

February, TUESDAY, 3, 1863.

The weather is cooler than blazes. We are to have an inspection and are making large preparation. It came off at 9 o’clock. It was done by a Lieitenant from the 2nd Regulars.

WEDNESDAY, 4.

Got up late. Made a ring for Rich Cleveland. Then fixed Mack’s overcoat pockets and Dick’s also. The weather is severe. Watters sells cakes at 16 for a quarter.

THURSDAY, 5.

Got up late. Bored a pipe for Jake and started one for myself. Made Dick Cleveland a pair of leggins. Fixed my boot and Mack’s. No more.

February, FRIDAY, 6, 1863.

Got up at the usual hour. It rains right along. Weather warm. Bucktails left here today. We have issued to us a new axe. Bought a quarter’s worth of stuff from Yanpy. Draw rations. No mail.

SATURDAY, 7.

Weather moderate. The sun shines bright all day. Tried to fix the 6th Caisson but failed. Made a table for the Captain. Then turned in to repairing the tent. Took an inventory of everything.

SUNDAY, 8.

Weather favorably. At 9 we are making preparation for a inspection which came off at 11 o’clock. Pitched a game of quoits. Got a letter from A. Whitaker.
